The Top New Reads at the Library

Ever wonder how to find out what exciting new books are hitting our shelves? It can be hard to keep track of which interesting titles are entering our collection on a regular basis, especially when so many popular books build up long holds list quickly. Subscribing to any of our 11 Select Reads newsletters is a great way to stay up to date on some of the top new additions to our stacks, whether they're mysteries, children's books, cookbooks, or DVDs. Each month, you'll receive a curated list in your inbox that features 3-5 new titles from a genre of your choice, selected by your CPL librarians. What are the new novels, history books, picture books, cookbooks, and more that you can request? Make your selections here on our website and read below to discover a little more about each option.

Top Choices

The best of the best fiction and non-fiction. Your librarians hand select their top choices from all of our recent acquisitions. It could be the novel at the top of the best seller list, a new tome about current events, or a breathtaking new memoir. but we'll be throwing in lots of other lesser known gems, sometimes local, to let you know what diamonds in the ruff have captured our attention as they entered our collection.

Mystery & Thrillers

You may know there's a new Louise Penny book out... but just in case, here are the mysteries and thrillers you might want to hear about if you're looking an all-enveloping read. This list will cover everything from cozies to spine-tinglers.

Then & Now

This list brings to light new history books at the library with a healthy dose of current events—because how would we understand history without it? Riveting biographies, historical overviews, political intrigue, and delightfully specific historical tomes all make their way onto the list.

Cooking, Food & Wine

The perfect list for all the cooks and aspiring home chefs out there! It's a selection of our best new cookbooks and food literature, covering everything from vegan food to barbecues to baking.

Home & Garden

Our home and garden books are some of the most popular non-fiction titles we bring to the library, which isn't too surprising in a town full of beautiful homes and gardens. Subscribe to this list to find out about our new books covering homemaking activities, crafts, gardening know-how, and more.

Audiobooks

Many of you may look to our app CloudLibrary for your audiobooks, but we do still get some top titles in CD form! Select this list to see both new fiction and non-fiction audiobooks.

DVDs

Our new DVDs fly off the shelves, so subscribing to this list is a great way to hear about some of them right away. Get your holds in! We cover all genres: comedies, romance, television series, documentaries, foreign films, and more.

Large Print

There are more and more books being published in large print, and if you find this format makes for a more enjoyable experience, this list is a great way to find out which news ones we have at the library. We get large print books in all genres, including non-fiction, and will pick some of our best for this monthly list.

Preschool to Early Elementary

As CPL's cataloger, I have to admit one of my favorite jobs is getting Miss Amy's selection of picture books ready for our shelves. She brings in the award winners but also picks out the most beautiful and exciting lesser known books that sometimes no other library in Maine has! Check out this list to see which great books are being added to our collection for our youngest patrons.

Middle Grades

Miss Amy treats us to her unboxing videos, but if a clickable list is more your speed, you can discover the middle grade novels, graphic novels, biographies, and stellar nonfiction that come out of those boxes to adorn our shelves by subscribing to this list.

Teens

Whether it's a graphic novel, the next in a great series, a fabulous standalone novel, or a new nonfiction book, you can find the very best from our young adult collection in this list.
